A-G courses are high school classes that students must complete to be eligible for admission to the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems. The A-G curriculum is designed to ensure that students have the core knowledge they need for college.
The A-G course pathway is made up of a series of courses, each represented by a letter:
A: Two years of history, including one year of world history and one year of U.S. history
B: Four years of college-preparatory English
C: Three years of college-preparatory mathematics
D: Two years of college-preparatory natural science
E: Two years of foreign language (not English)
F: One year of visual and performing arts
G: One year or two semesters of college-preparatory elective
To qualify for admission, students must complete their A-G courses with a C or better. They must also earn a minimum of 15 units in A-G courses.
While A-G courses are only required for UC and CSU, many other colleges and universities have similar admission requirements.
